Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. Her father's death as a carnival barker, at the age of a young girl and she was forced to support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was raised in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to high school. She only attended the school for two years, before going on to pursue an acting profession. It was not without challenges. After landing a gig in New York as a model for a detective magazine she had a difficult time trying to find work for stage. The next position she was offered was the "hat check" lady at a club before she gave up and moved back to Boston. She worked as an usherette in the mornings and appeared at the New England Repertory Company by the evening. This was her first permanent acting gig. She earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
